Frame drop/skip test passed with flying colors, as well. Backlight is non-PWM so there is no skipping effect on moving objects, this is also good news for people who might suffer headaches from PWM lights - Not a problem with the 34UC79G-B. The 144 Hz refresh rate helps here, it's a very smooth and clear picture at all times. Gradiant test was smooth, as expected, with no visible banding effect.Īlien Test: Motion blur looks great, I believe we've reached the maximum capability for modern IPS panels as it seems very similar between all of them. I do see very slight white crushing at 250,250,250 and beyond, which is pretty typical for all of my IPS panels.
All types of black colors are visible, there's no crush effect and even the darkest color is distinguishable from the rest. I see an amazing distinction between each color tier, not quite HDR quality but definitely impressive from this type of monitor. Pros: Lagom Test: Incredibly precise contrast, wasn't sure what "Mega" Conrast Ratio meant from the specs but apparently it's 1mil+ to 1 ratio. I did not test the included stand, but it looks pretty functional. Judging from the specs, this would make an awesome gaming monitor, but I did not test it in that mode. I was curious to see if the curved screen would take some getting used to, but it really isn't an issue as the screen is not radically curved. As I hoped, Lightroom does take advantage of the extra real estate and expands beautifully to fill it.
My old monitor was getting a bit small for that software and I found myself wishing for more space and higher resolution.
Overall Review: I'm a pro photographer and I use Adobe products including Photoshop and Lightroom to do my work. It works great, but you need an inch or so of space under the monitor to access it. Not really a con, but be advised that the only button on the outside of this monitor is a stubby joystick on the very bottom. This helps keep the monitor light, which is nice if you are mounting on an adjustable arm.Ĭons: It takes up a lot of horizontal space on your desk, but you knew that already! Instead of having the power supply inside the monitor, you get a small power brick to supply the power. It was nice that I did not have to go to a website to find the driver.
Worked pretty well immediately with my old video driver, then got really sharp when I installed the new driver from the included disk. Very well packaged, no shipping damage at all. Works with my monitor calibration software/device called Color Munki
